Recession helps B.C. meet greenhouse-gas emission reductions
Between 2007 and 2010, British Columbia reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 2.9 million tons, a 4.5 percent reduction, and the province's environmental minister said it was likely 3 percent of that reduction was due to a slowing economy.

Juliette Tennert, Utah's state demographer, said much of the population gains in the state in 2011 was due to birth rates not immigration, and Utah County's affordable housing is a draw for young families, which is why 11 of the county's communities made the list of the state's fastest growing cities.

Montana ag research center's tour tonight could be its last
The 106-year-old Western Agricultural Research Center near Corvallis is one of six operated by Montana State University across the state, and the center will open its gates for a tour tonight, but with the only scientist still based at the center set to retire the end of this year, this tour may be the last.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources received a $3.5-million bid from Signal Peak Energy for coal on state lands near the company's Bull Mountain Mine.

Grand Teton NP, Wyoming airport investigate illegal mowing of sagebrush
An employee of the Jackson Hole Airport, which is located within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, cut a two-to-three mile swath of sagebrush and other vegetation outside the perimeter fence of the airstrip, and park officials are working with airport personnel to determine how the mistake happened and why park officials weren't notified.

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $1-million grants to two Utah companies, with Oscilla Power receiving the federal funds to further its research on ocean wave energy, and Materials and Systems Research Inc. to use its grant on oxide fuel cell work.
